Barbara Holzman Joins Santa Barbara Museum of Natural History Board of Trustees | Homes and lifestyle

The Santa Barbara Museum of Natural History has added Barbara Holzman to its board. Holzman is Professor Emeritus at San Francisco State University in the Department of Geography and Environment, where she served as a professor for 25 years.

She holds a doctorate. and master’s degrees from UC Berkeley and UCLA, respectively, and a bachelor’s degree from UC Berkeley. An avid environmental advocate, Holzman co-founded the Interdisciplinary Environmental Studies Program at SF State and served as its director for several years.

Holzman’s previous research and writing has focused on biogeography and natural resource management. She retired from SF State in 2016 and is currently a research associate at the Santa Barbara Botanical Garden and a part-time consultant for the US Fish and Wildlife Service. She moved to Santa Barbara in 2016.

Working toward her goal of making nature experiences accessible to everyone, Holzman is a teacher at the Museum of Natural History and a volunteer at the Butterfly Pavilion.

“I am pleased to join the board of trustees to support the museum’s mission to create nature experiences accessible to all, as well as to support the next generation of scientists and environmentally conscious citizens,” she said. declared.

“The museum is part of Santa Barbara’s heritage, and I think our job is to help show the importance of local nature in our daily lives and our survival as a species,” Holzman said.
