Cal Football: Coach Rob Likens on Wide Recievers and Berkeley Restaurants

Coach Rob Likens – Berkeley, talented players and restaurants! (Going through Lindsay brauner)

Thanks to TheScientist019 for the transcript!

Lindsay Brauner (LB): Hi, it’s Lindsay Brauner with Coach Likens. Thank you very much for joining us.

Coach Rob Likens (RL): Thanks for having me.

LB: How was training tonight?

RL: The training has been good for us as an outside receiver. We made some downstream games that we didn’t do in training, so we improved in that area.

LB: Are there any guys who stand out after six workouts?

RL: Yes. Kenny lawler had a great evening tonight and he made a point of improving after every training so I’m very proud of him. Bryce Treggs continues to impress me; the way he comes here and trains, his attitude to improve and his passion to train and improve every day is very impressive.

LB: What was the biggest issue for you during your transition from Louisiana?

RL: On the football side? We just have to make the guys understand how fast we want to play. If you’ve never played in this attack, it takes a while because there is a lot that comes into play with tempo, especially replacement. And the kids have to get used to looking and seeing the guy in front of him [on the depth chart] and see when they are tired, when to go out on the field, when they can go out on the field, where to position themselves on the sideline to run to be the most efficient to take as [little] time as possible to get to their place. So this is all going to take time.

(Note TS019: It was painful just to transcribe, so I can’t even imagine having to go out and do it.)

LB: How do guys look at their roads?

RL: Pretty good. They had a great coach here last year (Coach Wes Chandler) who did a great job and it shows. As, Bryce treggs daddy is a trainer who trained him his whole life so you can tell he’s been trained well. What they did was they accepted whatever we asked them to do. No one resists my ideas. They come here and try to do them every day so that’s great.

LB: What do you like best about Berkeley?

RL: Wow. My favorite thing in Berkeley – all the places to eat.

Rob Likens and Zach Yenser: Cal Football’s Best Friend Coaching Duo (via Lindsay brauner)

LB: Incredible.

RL: Absolutely. We came from a small town of Ruston; it was great food, great people, but there weren’t a lot of places. There was not a lot of variety. Now you can, hell, take down Telegraph, there’s so many places to eat.

LB: Where is your favorite?

RL: Oh, wow …

LB: Hard.

RL: Yes, it’s hard. Uh, let me see … I know it’s not a one-of-a-kind place, but Chipotle is really good, love it.

(Note TS019: What a lame answer!)

* smile off camera *

LB: Come on! Let’s be a little more unique!

RL: I know, I know … I have to, but it’s just hard to pass up that bowl of burrito.

RL: I’ll tell you, my favorite place to eat, honestly, is the food that’s cooked and prepared here at the university. They do a phenomenal job.

LB: Does anyone pay you for …

RL: No! Nobody pays me. No, it’s amazing, they do a great job.

LB: Okay. Well, Coach Likens, thank you very much.

RL: Thank you.

LB: See you soon.
