Manchester’s stunning Schofield Brothers ‘STERLING’ bar at the Stock Exchange Hotel

Named to reference the building’s history and represent exceptional quality, the exciting new cocktail bar also boasts a fantastic wine program and a bespoke wood-paneled interior that beautifully reflects the old building’s history and glamor of the stock market.

STERLING is the next Manchester chapter for the award-winning trio – the third bar in town from the Schofield brothers who recently won bar of the year and Best New Bar for their first opening in the city, SCHOFIELD’S BAR, at the Class Bar Awards 2022.

The team has unrivaled experience around the world, winning International Bartender of the Year and working in some of the world’s most acclaimed bars, including Little Red Door, The American Bar at the Savoy, Singapore’s Tippling Club and Rockpool Bar & Grill, Sydney.

Born and raised in Manchester, the trio have continued to drive the Manchester food and drink scene forward with their current venues. THE SCHOFIELD BAR and ATOMECA.

They are joined by Paola Mariotti as General Manager, who has spent years working in some of the world’s most renowned five-star hotels, including the Beaufort Bar at the Savoy and the Blue Bar at the Berkeley in London.

Joe Schofield said: “We have been planning this new bar for a long time and the doors are now open. Stock Exchange Hotel is a particularly meaningful place for us because our mother worked at the Stock Exchange. Our grandmother also learned to swim in the old pool in the basement of our original location SCHOFIELD’S BAR. As we continue to evolve our operations in Manchester, it is heartening to have a connection to the past, as it reflects very well on our approach to our offering.

STERLING has a capacity of just over 100 people and is open five days a week, Tuesday to Saturday.

The cocktail offer will include an elegant and demanding list of classics, such as the Special artist (Highland Park 12 Scotch, Redcurrant, Sherry Lemon) and the Martinez (Roku Gin, Asterley Bros. Estate Vermouth, Dry Cherry, Orange Bitters).

The list also includes some of the Schofield brothers’ own creations, including Aguila (Tequila Herradura Blanco, Pineapple, Lime, Avocado, Coriander, Red Pepper, Black Pepper) and Caramel (Butterscotch, Butter, Singleton 12 Scotch, Lemon, Egg White).

The bar’s snack menu will be prepared by Lush by Tom Kerridge, the Michelin-starred chef in charge of the magnificent Bull & Bear restaurant located in the former trading room of The Stock Exchange hotel. The luxurious menu will include Gougères with Truffle Cheese, Whipped Taramasalata, Tapioca cracker with squid ink, Marinated Red Onion and Crispy Potato Bites, Fresh cream and Caviar.

Jacqui Griffiths, General Manager of the Stock Exchange Hotel, added: “We are really looking forward to bringing STERLING to the Stock Exchange Hotel. Joe, Daniel and James have extensive experience in the hospitality industry which will add to the current offering with three world class brands housed under one roof.

Gary Neville, owner of the Stock Exchange Hotel, said: “As soon as I walked into SCHOFIELD’S BAR 8 or 9 months ago and met Joe and Daniel, I felt like I walked into a destination of international quality but with a local atmosphere and understanding of the spirit of Manchester.

“We talked about how we grew up in Bury and the times we had there! I can’t wait for STERLING to open at Stock Exchange Hotel and develop this partnership with the Schofield brothers.

STERLING is now open for bookings and walk-ins. It will be open Tuesday to Friday from 5:30 p.m. to 12:30 p.m. and Saturday from 2 p.m. to 12:30 p.m.
