“No increase in property taxes”
Several important items were unveiled at the City Council meeting in Rockford tonight (Monday 11/21), including council’s approval of a balanced budget for 2023.
In a press release from the City of Rockford, Mayor McNamara said he was “pleased” there was no property tax increase and that he could approve the budget for the year at come.

Some other items that will feature in the 2023 Balanced Budget are the city’s investment in Rockford PD and the Mayor’s Office of Domestic and Community Violence Prevention enforcement, prevention and response initiatives.
State-mandated pension contributions will receive an additional $3.3 million, and the $1.5 million in annual contributions from casino revenue will go to Rockford Promise.
Rockford Promise NIU Scholarship, which offers students who live in Rockford, attend Rockford Public Schools, and earn a 3.0 GPA with the opportunity to graduate at NIU tuition-free.
Additional resources for Code Enforcement Challenges were also approved, according to the press release.
