Questions to ask yourself when choosing a gift for your friend
Most can agree that it can be difficult to choose what to give your friend for major events such as birthdays or Christmas. With so many options available, it’s easy to get lost in the depths of Amazon trying to pick something that will appeal to them. You could even explore the entire Bay Area on Google Maps and think of a place to take them. The next time you’re struggling to find a gift for your friend, ask yourself these questions to help you.
“What is my budget? “
First of all, as students, we need to consider how much we are willing to shell out for this gift. Price certainly doesn’t dictate how much your friend will appreciate what you give them, but it can be a great starting point for fine-tuning your options. Determine a price range that you are willing to spend and stick to it.
“What have they been into lately?”
Weeks or days before gift time, write down what your friend has been up to lately. It could be a new show they are binging or music they have listened to. Receiving a gift related to what they often talk about will show you are listening and remembering their unique interests.
“Do they need anything? ”
If you want to go the practical route, give them a need that they recently mentioned to you. It can range from new sweatpants to a replenishment of skin care products. Something they can use for school is also a good idea, like a new laptop case, mouse pad, or a pack of cute pens. No matter what you choose, practicality is always a good idea.
âWhat about the food? “
Letâs be honest here. Getting food or drink as a gift is always a sure-fire option. The next time you go out, try turning the conversation into a conversation about food and drink cravings to get ideas on what to get them. Surprising them with delicious bites or refreshing drinks will never fail to put a smile on their face, especially on a special occasion.
“Or a surprise trip? ”
If quality time is their love language, taking them out for the day can be an option you both will enjoy. It doesn’t have to be grand, and you certainly don’t have to go far. Staying in Berkeley and going to a local restaurant down in Shattuck can give you a good time. If you’re feeling adventurous, Berkeley Marina has a ton of fun activities, from kayaking to paddleboarding, that you can try out.
As students, our friends represent the world to us, especially since many of us are far from home. These are the people we turn to in good times and bad times, so we want to give them something special on those occasions. Whichever option you choose, what matters most is the thought we put into the gift, not the size, price, or grandeur.
