Steve Catlett – A Remarkable Opportunity for Berkeley County | Journal-news

Bill and Jane Yearout

Olathe, Kansas

Like many of you, my wife and I are thrilled that Steve Catlett is running for Berkeley County Council. During the 19 years we lived there, Jane was active in a gardening club and I helped plan the trails. It gave both of us the opportunity to work with Steve when he was executive director of Martinsburg-Berkeley County Parks & Rec.

Like everyone else, we found Steve Catlett to be exceptionally intelligent, curious, creative, practical, honest, open, trustworthy, visionary, knowledgeable and very resourceful. His accomplishments in public service are truly historic, but there isn’t an arrogant bone in his body, and he isn’t shy about praising others for all that success. Like the others, we came to see that much of Steve’s success came from being a great listener and being able to work with people of all persuasions. He is a man of action and a very effective problem solver – always respectful, fair, direct and friendly with everyone.

Those of us who have worked with Steve know that his passion for “quality of life” extends far beyond public parks. He understands how it all fits together – jobs, broadband, roads, safety, recreation, health, subsidies, state/federal funding, and a host of other things within the jurisdiction of county government.

The world could use a lot more Steve Catlett, but there’s only one – and he’s on the May 10 ballot. We hope Berkeley County will seize the opportunity to elect this remarkable public servant.
